Vasyl Hrytsak: Effective SBU-France partnership will be expanded (video)
The SBU Head Vasyl Hrytsak met with Christophe Le Rigoleur - First Counselor, French Charge d`Affairs in Ukraine.
The French diplomatic official thanked the SBU officers for a successful operation on detaining of two French citizens involved in the commitment of especially grave economic crimes in the European Union. "This is a very important deal for us. I`m impressed with the fact that SBU officers detained the criminals in three days after having received our request. Close cooperation between the Ukrainian and French secret services became possible owing to the high level of relations between two countries," said Christophe Le Rigoleur.
Vasyl Hrytsak informed the First Counselor about all the details of the operations carried out by the security services. "I am convinced that the effective SBU-France partnership will be improved. Only thanks to constant contacts during the operation, my colleagues detained the second offender wanted by Interpol," he underlined.
To remind, on August 15, 2017, the SBU received information from French colleagues about the possible residing of a criminal in Ukraine. The French court convicted him to 7-years imprisonment for the embezzlement of EUR 2,000,000,000 from European private and state-owned companies and banks. The illegal formation organized by the criminal fraudulently transferred the money of the leading French and European companies to the fictitious structures.
The next day, the SBU Main Counter-Intelligence Directorate officers established that on August 14 the criminal arrived to our country. The offender arrived to Ukraine with the passport of a foreign citizen, registered for another surname.
The SBU officers, possessing only a photo of a man hiding from French justice in some European countries over five years established his whereabouts and on August 18 detained him with an accomplice who was also on the international wanted list for having committed crimes in the European Union.
At present, both French citizens are held under temporary arrest for a term of up to 40 days. The appropriate documents on extradition are expected.
During the meeting, Vasyl Hrytsak and Christophe Le Rigoleur also discussed ways to further partnership improvement in the field of protecting French business and fostering French investment in the economy of Ukraine.
