Militants, detained near Mariupol, had an order from their Russian handlers to fire at Ukrainian soldiers
Eight militants of the DNR terrorist organization detained by Ukrainian soldiers near Mariupol eagerly communicated with the SBU investigators.
By written evidence of the Donetsk Region residents, they joined terrorists in order to earn money. They were promised a 15 thousand RUB salary. They were recruited to one of the illegal groups by its leader – Russian national aka Shaman. Chief unit, where the arrested people “served”, was Russian national “Liokha from St.Petersburg”, major of Russian Police, with fighting experience in Chechnya.
The militants were tasked by the Russian handlers to watch the activity and movement of the Ukrainian Armed Forces for further preparation of provocative acts against Ukrainian troops.
They tried to mine territory near Shyrokyne with anti-personnel mines, prohibited by the Geneva Convention, and had orders to shoot to kill in case of exposure of their observation post. The investigation regards it an unconditional violation of the Minsk agreements.
Investigative actions are currently being taken in this criminal proceeding.
The SBU assures relatives of the detained persons that there is no risk to their lives. In line with current legislation, the Service is ready to allow access of the representatives of the international organizations to them.
