SBU stops dissemination of software for watching prohibited TV-channels (video)

The SBU officers revealed and stopped the dissemination of software for watching prohibited TV-channels in the territory of Ukraine.

The operatives of the SBU Office in Kharkiv Region established that the management of one of the wide wholesale and retail networks that sells home electronics organized installment of additional software at SMART-TVs. For additional price the buyers were offered to ‘replace’ the TV for free watching of propagandist channels of the aggressor country, which are prohibited by the National Council of Ukraine on Television and Radio Broadcasting because of the threat to national security. The cost of this service was 1,900 UAH.

The law enforcers established that the software was developed by national IT-specialists who also administered Internet resources for technical support of broadcasting of forbidden channels. One of the biggest provider companies of Ukraine conducted the hosting.

The SBU officers conducted a number of searches in the shops of the trade network in Kharkiv and at the apartments of the persons involved into the case. The law enforcers revealed accounting and other documents that prove the realization of illegal software. The access to the head-end equipment in Kyiv was blocked.

At present the criminal case under Article 110 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine was launched. The issue of qualification of the criminals’ actions under other articles is being settled.

The SBU officers also conduct checks of the possible involvement of management of the trade network to the evasion of taxes and hiding real financial, economic and accounting processes of the company from state supervisory body.

Investigative actions are under way.
