SBU investigators notify “pro-Kremlin” blogger-journalist of suspicion of treason against the State in Zhytomyr region
The SBU officials ended the activity of local blogger-journalist, who prepared and disseminated anti-Ukrainian materials being directed by Russian curators and whose activity endangered the information security of the State.
The law enforcers established that since 2014 the journalist had been writing tendency articles on the request of the managers of Russian government propaganda news agencies.
The blogger received topics and required content of the materials by post or by Messenger, sometimes he was allowed to choose the topic on his own. He was paid for his articles via the international online payments system.
The propaganda articles written by journalist, which contained emphasis required by Kremlin curator were published on six websites, which were administrated from the Russian Federation and temporarily occupied territories. Noteworthy that at the beginning of the “career” the author signed up with the real name, but later switched exclusively to aliases.
During the pre-trial investigation, linguistic, forensic and psychological examinations of journalist's text were conducted. They confirmed their manipulative influence on the readers' minds and the motivation of the audience to commit certain actions to threaten the sovereignty and independence of our State. According to experts’ conclusions, materials with semantic-linguistic content also contain calls to incite national enmity within the country and between Ukraine and neighboring friendly states.
In the framework of the initiated criminal proceeding, the SBU officials conducted authorized searches at the residence of the blogger. During the searches, law enforcers found computer equipment with evidence of correspondence with Russian curators and preparation of anti-Ukrainian materials. The copies of agreements concluded with the state information agencies of the Russian Federation regarding the preparation of ordered articles, statement of acceptance of works on a specified fee and bank cards used for money transfer were also seized from the criminal.
The blogger-journalist was notified of suspicion of crime commitment under Part 1 Article 111, Part 2 Article 110, Part 2 Article 161 and Part 1 Article 258-3 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
The issue of choosing the measure of restraint is being settled.
The pretrial investigation is under way.
