SBU blocks large-scale production and sale of counterfeit alcohol (video)
The SBU officers in cooperation with the Fiscal Service under the procedural guidance of the Prosecutor's Office stopped the activity of the interregional organized group that set up a widespread network of production and sale of counterfeit alcohol.
The law enforcers established that the group included five persons and the organizer, resident of Melitopol. The offenders set up the production of the counterfeit alcohol in Zaporizhya, Kyiv and Dnipropetrovsk regions.
The offenders remanufactured automobile glass washer and received alcohol used by the underground workshops to produce the imitation of the well-known Ukrainian brands, inform the SBU operatives. They documented that the offenders’ daily sales reached up to 2,000 litres.
During the searches in Zaporizhya, Dnipropetrovsk regions and in Kyiv, the law enforcers seized equipment for production of counterfeit beverages, more than 10 tons of counterfeit alcohol, 1,500 litres of home-made vodka and brandy under different trademarks, as well as 9,5 tons of low-alcohol liquids, total value reaching almost UAH 5,000,000 (USD 192,308).
The seized alcohol products have been transported for examination. The criminal proceeding is initiated under Article 204 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The SBU officers also detained a minibus with almost three tons of alcohol in Mohyliv-Podilskyi in Vinnitsa. The law enforcers uncovered the car near the state border on the bank of the Dniester River. Almost 200 meters long rubber hose was laid down from the car to the coastline. The investigative and operative actions regarding the uncovered facts are under way.
