SBU uncovers official of Kyiv Customs Office on bribe-taking
SBU officers in cooperation with the Prosecutor's Office of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea uncovered on bribe-taking the official of the customs post of the Kyiv Customs Office of the State Fiscal Service.
If international express services valued over the statutory amount of EUR 150, the civil servant extorted “rollback" money from businessmen and individuals, charging them 50 percent of the sum of compulsory payments for customs clearance, law enforcement officers have established. The illegal mechanism was based on reducing the real value of the goods and resulted in declined customs payments to the state budget.
SBU operatives documented the fact of extortion from the private entrepreneur for customs clearance of the international express consignment of the consumer goods.
SBU officers detained the offender on receiving USD 400 from the businessman in a village of Boryspil district of Kyiv region.
The criminal proceeding was initiated under Part 3 Article 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
The official was notified of suspicion in committing the crime and was detained under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedural Code of Ukraine.
Urgent investigative actions are under way.
