SBU exposed corrupt Customs officer in Kharkiv airport (upd: video)
SBU exposed a corrupt official of Kharkiv Customs Office.
SBU officers established that the officials of Kharkiv-Aeroport Customs Terminal organized a scheme of money extortion from passengers for concealing from appropriate foreign services the excise goods that leave Ukraine. Information sharing between partner foreign custom offices for joint crime detection and termination are envisaged by relevant protocols to Ukraine-EU Association Agreement.
Custom officers received five bribes totalling UAH 20,000 (about USD 660) from air travellers, the law enforcers documented in course of pretrial investigation.
SBU officers detained one of the criminals in the Kharkiv International Airport on receiving another UAH 6,000 (USD 220) bribe.
The criminal case is being conducted under Part 3 Article 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
The issue about serving a notice of suspicion in committing the crime and choosing a measure of restraint is now being settled.
Urgent investigative actions are ongoing.
The operation was carried out under the procedural guidance of the Prosecutor`s Office and with the assistance of the State Fiscal Service Internal Security Department.
