The SBU exposes corrupt deputy head of Kyiv Customs Office
The SBU officers in cooperation with the Military Prosecutor's Office exposed on bribe the deputy of the head of the Kyiv Customs Office.
The law enforcers established that the official through the intermediary systematically extorted money from the foreign economic entities. For an unlawful benefit the official guaranteed the unobstructed customs clearance of imported goods by the businessmen.
The SBU operatives documented the official’s accomplice on receiving more than USD 4,500. The SBU officers detained the accomplice on receiving a part of the bribe amounting to over USD 1,000. Deputy of the Head of the Kyiv Customs Office was detained under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine.
The offenders were served a notice of suspicion in committing the crimes stipulated by Part 3 Article 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
The measure of restraint in the form of custody was chosen under the decision of the Kyiv Pechersk District Court.
Investigative and operative actions aimed to establish other officials of the Customs Office who are probably involved in the corruption schemes are under way.
