Zaporizzhyia: SBU prevents money theft from state-owned banks
The SBU officers in cooperation with the Police exposed hacker group participants of which planned to steal money from clients’ state-owned bank accounts in Zaporizzhyia.
The law enforcers established that three local residents were planning to commit unauthorized interference to information bank networks for receiving clients’ personal data of financial institutions. The offenders used specialized harmful software aimed to "break" the system of remote bank services. Due to infection of the bank information networks, the hackers expected to gain unauthorized access to clients’ personal data and withdraw money from their accounts.
The law enforcers documented the hackers’ attempts to attack bank networks and operationally identified the offenders.
During searches in the offenders’ residences, the SBU officers detected computer equipment with installed harmful software, electronic storage media, international bank cards and documentation confirming the intention to carry out the transaction.
The computer equipment was rendered for the expert examination.
The criminal proceeding was initiated under Part 1 Article 361 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
Investigative actions are under way.
