SBU presents archive documents on occasion of celebration of Shevchenko Days in Ukraine
The SBU Branch State Archive will present subsequent declassified documents which uncover the little-known pages of patriots’ yesterdays who defended our rights on free development and national authenticity on the occasion of the 204th anniversary of the birth of the Great Kobzar.
The SBU officers will hand over the materials concerning Volodymyr V. Naumenko, an outstanding scientist, cultural and public figure, to the Kaniv Museum of Taras Shevchenko . He made a significant contribution in the preservation and promotion of Shevchenko's masterpieces and commemoratng of his memory as a supporter of the cultural identity of Ukrainians. He was arrested and shot with other Bolshevism victims the next day.
Published documents also enlight the interesting facts of creating the Shevchenko portrait by the artist Ilya Repin and rebuilding the Kobzar's grave in Kaniv.
The SBU continues to work on declassifying the materials, classified by the Soviet secret services on the struggle of Ukrainians to preserve the national identity and to gain the state independence of Ukraine.
