Kyiv region: SBU exposes officials of one of the city councils on UAH 560,000 (USD 21,000) bribe
SBU officers exposed two corrupt heads of the Departments (Architecture and City Planning and the State Architectural and Constructional Inspection) of one of the Kyiv Regional City Councils.
The law enforcers established that the officials extorted UAH 560,000 (USD 21,000) from the local resident for building certification documents for the acceptance of a private residential building into service and waiving the fine for the absence of the planning documentation.
The SBU officers detained the city's chief architect in his office on receiving the USD 10,000 bribe. The SBU operatives also documented transferring of the unlawful benefit amounting to UAH 300,000 (USD 10,714) to the bank account of the head of the department of the State Architectural and Constructional Inspection. The law enforcers detained the official on receiving the entire amount of the bribe.
The issues of serving a notice of suspicion in committing the crime and choosing the measure of restraint are being decided. The urgent investigative actions in the framework of the criminal proceeding initiated under Part 3 Article 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine are under way.
The operation was conducted under the procedural guidance of the Prosecutor's Office.
