SBU exposes organized group engaged in stirring up inter-ethnic conflicts

SBU jointly with the Prosecutor’s Office uncovered in Chernihiv an organized group that committed the crimes of inciting the ethnic hatred and harming the international image of Ukraine, on orders of the Russian special services.

The law enforcers established that the members of the criminal group were involved in committing acts of vandalism against Jewish and Polish cultural and religious heritage in Sumy and Volyn regions.

The SBU operatives documented that on the night of 25-26 of December 2017, the offenders depicted and damaged the crosses of the mass grave of the Polish border guards killed in September 1939 in the battle with the Red Army near the Melnyky village (Shatskyi district in Volyn region). On the night of 29-30 December 2017, the vandals sprayed anti-Semitic graffiti on the building of the community’s "Jewish House" in Sumy.

During searches at the offenders’ residences, the law enforcers seized eight TNT blocks, five RGD-5 grenades, cold weapons, anti-Ukrainian symbols and other materials confirming their illegal activities.

Investigations are ongoing in the framework of criminal case initiated under Part 3 Article 110, Part 1 Article 111 and Part 1 Article 255 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
