In Odessa, SBU exposed the mechanism of falsification of expert assessments for items of cultural and historical heritage
In Odessa, SBU officers in cooperation with the Prosecutor's Office exposed the mechanism of falsification of expert assessments for items of cultural and historical heritage by the management of Odesa Literature Museum.
Law enforcers established that literature experts working at the museum have been systematically falsifying the results of art expertise for rare editions. In particular, ancient religious books were planned to be transported abroad for sale at auctions. SBU operatives have documented that the officials demanded USD 400 for the examination of three items.
SBU officers detained one of the top managers of Odessa Literature Museum, a body under the Department of Culture, Nationalities, Religions and Cultural Heritage Protection of the Regional State Administration, on receiving the second part of the bribe (USD 250) for provision of a positive conclusion of the art expertise.
The criminal proceeding was initiated under Part 3 Article 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
Pre-trial investigation is under way.
