SBU officers win the 2018 Invictus Games
SBU officers Volodymyr Blud and Denis Fischuk became the winners of the National Competition “ 2018 Invictus Games”.
172 officers and veterans of the security forces wounded in the confrontation with the Russia’s armed aggression participated in the events held at the Kyiv Pioneer Stadium, the Trukhanov Island and the Swimming Pool of Ukrainian Army. In a tense tournament competition, the participants were deciding the fate of 60 medals in eight sports - running, cycling, rowing on simulators, powerlifting, swimming, long jump, archery and shot-put.
Each of the winners becomes a candidate for the national team to take part in international Invictus Games, which will take place this year in Sydney.
SBU Major Volodymyr Blud, who has a partial loss of vision, won the first place in swimming 50 meters, and silver and bronze medals for rowing on a simulator. The colonel of reserve Denis Fischuk, who got a concussion in the ATO operation, won a race in 6 km bicycle race and the third place in 50 m crawl stroke.
President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko congratulated the winners of the 2018 Invictus Games and handed them medals.
In his address to the participants, the President of Ukraine noted the indelible spirit of Ukrainian soldiers and announced the creation of a new rehabilitation system for Ukrainian servicemen and veterans. The corresponding decree was signed by the Head of State directly during the ceremony.
