Luhansk region: SBU blocks activities of organized criminal group
SBU officers involved in the Joint Forces Operation blocked a Severodonetsk-based criminal group headed by previously convicted citizen of Russia.
Law enforcers found that the foreigner organized a gang of previously convicted local residents. The attackers created artificial conflicts and demanded money from the victims for “resolving” the incident. In case of non-payment of “compensation”, the group members threatened with physical harassment. Investigators of the special-purpose unit documented cases of extortion for a total amount of about UAH 500,000 (circa USD 19,250).
SBU officers detained three criminals on one of the city streets on receiving recurrent cash tranche from a victim.
During searches at the place of residence of the detainees, law enforcers found cold weapons, gas pistols, “debt” receipts, as well as 15 kg of marijuana.
The issue of serving a notice of suspicion to the detainees in committing the crime and choosing custody as the measure of restraint is being decided. The investigative and operative actions in the framework of the criminal proceeding initiated under Part 4 Article 189 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine are under way.
The operation was conducted jointly with the National Police.
