SBU paid tribute to the memory of the killed defenders of Ukraine in Donetsk region
In Donetsk region, SBU officers took part in commemorative events in honour of the dead defenders of our country and peaceful residents of East Ukraine.
Four years ago, militants shot a checkpoint between Olhinka and Blahodatne towns of Volnovakha district, staffed by the soldiers of 51st separate mechanized brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. At that time 18 servicemen were killed protecting Ukraine.
The close relatives of the victims, representatives of the SBU, police, border guards and veterans of the anti-terrorist operation came to Volnovakha of Donetsk region to honour the servicemen memory. In this place, the temple of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker was opened in honour of the soldiers who gave their lives for Ukraine. Those present took part in the commemoration prayer and laid flowers to the memorial cross.
On March 21, 2014, the SBU captain Viktor Mandzyk was killed in Volnovakha performing his duties.
“We are united by sorrow for our lost Heroes. We know that the SBU officers were the first to start protecting the territorial integrity of our state from Russian aggression. In this place, captain Victor Manzik heroically died while performing his duty. He died defending the rule of law and state sovereignty of Ukraine,” addressed the SBU deputy head major general Vadym Poiarkov the mother of the Hero on behalf of the SBU Head, SBU Board and staff.
The participants of the event also paid tribute to the memory of killed civilians of Donetsk region and laid flowers to the memorial. On January 13, 2015 terrorists shot “Zlatoustivka-Donetsk” bus from the “Grad” missile systems. As a result, 12 civilians were killed, 18 more - injured.
