Kyiv: SBU exposes organized group of arms dealers
SBU officers uncovered an organized group specializing in the illegal manufacture and sale of firearms in Kyiv
The law enforcers established that two Kyiv residents restored and processed weapons for sale. The dealers equipped the underground workshop in the garage of one of the offenders. The dealers used the relationship in the criminal circles for selling the weapons. The SBU operatives documented two facts of the illegal sale of the Shpahin machine gun, the Makarov gun, the CZ-27 pistols and rounds amounting to USD 2,500.
The SBU officers detained the offenders under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code after the subsequent sale of the reprocessed samples of the small arms.
During the searches in the offenders’ premises and in the underground workshop, the law enforcers uncovered over 10 unidentified firearms, 2 silencers, 2 F-1 grenades and over 100 rounds of different caliber. The samples of the seized weapons were sent for examination.
The detainees were served a notice in committing the crime. The issue of choosing a measure of restraint is being decided. The investigative actions in the framework of the criminal proceeding initiated under Part 1 Article 263 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine on identifying other offenders involved in the unlawful activities are under way.
The operation was conducted jointly with the Police under the procedural supervision of the Prosecutor's Office.
