Kharkiv region: SBU exposes two corrupt border guards
SBU officers exposed two line managers of Kharkiv border detachment of the Eastern Regional Department of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine.
The SBU operatives established that the head of the unit in cooperation with the head of the group of inspectors of the SBGS Department organized a mechanism of extorting money from the foreigners who are forbidden to enter Ukraine. The law enforcers documented that the offenders extorted about UAH 20,000 (USD 770) from one of the illegal migrants of Trans-Caucasian region for the unobstructed crossing of the Ukrainian border.
The SBU operatives detained both border guards after they completed the illegal border crossing of a non-resident into the territory of Ukraine by placing a date-stamp into his passport.
The actions of the servicemen were qualified on the basis of Article 368 (Taking a bribe), Article 419 (violation of statutory rules of border guard duty), Article 366 (forgery in office), Article 332 (illegal movement of persons across the state border of Ukraine) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The issues of serving a notice of suspicion to the detainees in committing the crimes and choosing the measures of restraint in the form of custody are being decided.
The urgent investigative and operational actions are under way.
The operation was conducted jointly with the Internal Security Department of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine under the procedural supervision of the Military Prosecutor's Office of the Kharkiv Garrison of the United Forces.
