STOP smuggling! Bukovyna region: SBU stops international smugglers group getting motorcycle and bicycle equipment to Ukraine
SBU officers in Bukovyna region stopped international organized group involved in smuggling motorcycle and bicycle equipment to Ukraine from the EU countries.
The SBU operatives established that three Chernivtsi residents organized the scheme for stealing and disassembly of motorcycles and bicycles of the well-known world brands, using contacts in the criminal circles of several EU countries. The spare parts were transported to Ukraine under the guise of the migrant workers’ parcels. The offenders sold the goods on the territory of Ukraine and the CIS through the Internet.
During the authorized investigative actions in the offenders’ residences and storage places for stolen equipment, officers uncovered 13 foreign-produced motorcycles, over 30 bicycles and a large number of the component parts. According to the preliminary estimates, the cost of the seized equipment reaches about USD 130,000. The law enforcers also uncovered a large sum of cash in hryvnias and foreign currency, as well as 21 “mining farms”.
The members of the group were served a notice of suspicion in committing the crime stipulated by Part 2 Article 28 and Article 198 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
The urgent investigative actions on identifying other persons involved in the illegal scheme are under way.
