SBU prevents subversive action on railway in Kharkiv region

A subversive of the “DNR” terrorist organization was exposed and detained by Kharkiv-based officers of the SBU Main Directorate of Counter-Intelligence Protection of the State’s economic interests.

The SBU operatives established that the resident of temporarily occupied Donetsk, who has recently moved to Kharkiv region, was recruited by representatives of the so-called DNR “Ministry of State Security” with the purpose of committing a subversive action on the railway.

SBU officers documented that supervisors from the fake “ministry” instructed the criminal to use an anti-tank grenade launcher for blowing up a freight train with lubricants and other material assets for the needs of Ukrainian Armed Forces in the area of Joint Forces Operation. All saboteur’s actions were coordinated and approved by the supervisors via a popular mobile messenger.

The law enforcers have also established that since 2002 the criminal served 14 years in penal colony for willful murder of a person he committed in prior conspiracy with a group of people. The SBU operatives including officers of the “Alpha” Special Operation Centre detained the saboteur near the “Osnova” railway station in Kharkiv on his attempt to fire grenade launcher at the freight train. The RPG-22 grenade launcher and four F-1 and RGD-5 fire grenades with fuses were seized from the criminal.

The SBU investigators has initiated a criminal proceeding under Article 113 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (subversive action).

The issue of serving a notice of suspicion in committing the crime and choosing a measure of restraint in the form of custody is being decided upon by the court.

The urgent investigative and operative actions are under way.

The operation was conducted under the procedural guidance of the Prosecutor's Office in Kharkiv region.
