Odesa region: corrupt Odesa District Court Head serves notice of suspicion following SBU materials
Following the SBU officers materials, a corrupt head of one of Odesa region district courts is noticed of suspicion by the Prosecutor's Office.
The SBU operatives established that the head of the court promised for USD 6,000 (UAH 168,000) to the resident of the temporarily occupied territory of Donetsk region to influence in the taking decision of another court in a civil case in resident’s favor. The plaintiff used a "procuratory" issued by a notary of the so-called “DNR” as one of the grounds for judicial decision. Soon the court delivered the "necessary" decision to pay to plaintiff USD 30,000 (UAH 840,000) by another participant in the judicial trial – a businessman from Odesa region.
The law enforcers documented that the head of the district court engaged to the unlawful activity his mother as a mediator. The law enforcers found the whole amount of unlawful benefit in mother’s house during the sanctioned investigations.
Following the SBU officers materials, the head of the District Court was served a notice of suspicion in committing a crime stipulated by Part 2 Art. 190 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine by the deputy Prosecutor General of Ukraine.
The investigations are under way.
We remind that during 2015-2018, the SBU special units for Fighting Corruption and Organized Crime initiated 32 criminal proceedings on judges of different levels. 34 persons were notified of suspicion in commitment of corruption crime. In 28 of these criminal proceedings, the actions of suspects are determined as crime under Art. 368 "Adoption of a proposal, promise or obtaining an unlawful benefit by an official" of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. In particular, the head and two judges of Appeal courts, a judge of the district administrative court, eight executives and seventeen judges of district, inter-district and city courts are served a notice of suspicion.
