Head of EUBAM: SBU is important partner in countering cross-border and international organized crime
The working meeting of the SBU Department for Fighting Corruption and Organized Crime headed by Pavlo Demchyna - the First Deputy Head of SBU and Slawomir Pichor - the Head of the European Union Border Assistance Mission to Moldova and Ukraine (EUBAM) took place in Kyiv.
During the event the participants discussed the issues on counteraction to illegal transportation of excise goods through the customs border of Ukraine, in particular tobacco products and alcohol.
As a result of the meeting, the Parties supported the thesis on the importance of the legislative decision to classify the smuggling of excise goods as criminal offense. According to the participants such practices are compliant with EU standards. The meeting members also discussed Ukraine’s steps in implementation of the Protocol (to the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control) on Elimination of Illicit Trade in Tobacco Products, ratified by Ukraine in 2006.
Slawomir Pichor emphasized that the Mission considers the SBU as a very important partner in countering cross-border and transnational organized crime.
The Ukrainian delegation expressed support to the future joint projects aimed at enhancing border security offered by the Head of EUBAM.
