SBU exposes domestic specialists of military-industrial complex on illegal repairs of military equipment abroad
In Kyiv, the officers of the SBU Counterintelligence Department exposed seven specialists of the National military-industrial complex on providing the illegal services on repair services for military equipment abroad.
The SBU operatives established that the owner of Kyiv-based commercial structure, who had a foreign business, organised an illegal mechanism for servicing foreign airplanes. On behalf of his foreign organization, the offender entered into agreement with senior officials of Air Forces of an African country, for the repair and maintenance of military transport aircraft.
The criminal involved current and former specialists of a national State enterprise to the illegal activity. They got unpaid leaves for traveling abroad and went to the foreign country to repair aircrafts without the permission of the State Export Control Service.
The SBU officers detained seven “migrant workers” in customs control area of Boryspil International Airport on their return to Ukraine.
During the inspection of criminal’s luggage and handbags, the officers found technical documents for aircraft servicing and foreign contracts for repair of military equipment. Also, the law enforcers found the invitations used for obtaining visas, photo and video taken out during the repairs on the foreign air force base, as well as cash.
The issue of serving the offenders a notice of suspicion in committing a crime is being settled. The pre-trial investigation aimed at bringing to responsibility other individuals involved in the illegal activity is under way within the framework of criminal proceeding initiated by the SBU investigators under Part 1 Article 333 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
