SBU stops export of components for IL-76 transport aircraft
SBU counter-intelligence officers stopped export of components for IL-76 heavy aircraft.
Special service operatives established that in November 2018, IL-76 maintenance works were run at one of the Ukrainian repair base, on orders of a Central African country.
SBU officers documented that a group of domestic ‘cowboys’ planned to illegally export, by plane, the military goods such as aircraft components. During thorough customs inspection of the plane on the day of departure, law enforcers found a batch of contraband items worth more than USD 100,000.
To conceal the transfer of military goods to the foreign party, the offenders disguised the parts as civilian-purpose goods.
SBU investigators initiated criminal proceeding under Article 333 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
The urgent investigative actions are under way.
