Mykolaiv: SBU blocks illegal sale of weapons and ammo 14:04, 06-12-2018

In the framework of countering illegal arms trafficking, SBU officers blocked the illegal sale of munitions in Mykolaiv.

Special service operatives established that a local used his residence to upgrade weapons to military grade, for subsequent resale.  The arms were distributed via the representatives of criminal circles. Employees of the SBU documented several facts of illicit sale of munitions.

Law enforcers arrested the drug dealer in accordance with Art. 208 of the Criminal Procedural Code of Ukraine on one of the streets of regional centre during an attempt to sell two guns.

During authorised investigation searches at the residences of the detained and other suspects, SBU officers seized five guns and a Russia-made rifled-bore weapon with an optical sight and two magazines.  The searches also yielded a large amount of different-caliber ammo and equipment for production of ammunitions and upgrading of weapons.

Seized munition and other items have been sent for expert examination.

The detainees were served a notice of suspicion in committing a crime stipulated by Part 1 Article. 263 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The issue of choosing a measure of restraint is being settled.

The urgent investigative and operative actions on establishing and bringing to criminal responsibility other offenders involved in the illegal activities are under way.
