SBU identifies Kharkiv resident recruited by Russia’s special services
SBU officers under the procedural supervision of the Prosecutor's Office exposed the resident of Kharkiv who was recruited by the special services of the aggressor country for subversion against our state.
Operatives of the SBU's counterintelligence unit found that during a job-seeking trip to Russia, an employee of one of Kharkiv-based state R&D centres was recruited by a hostile special service. For a monetary reward, the man agreed to collect information about the places of deployment of military units in the region, their military branch, personal data of the military personnel and their place of service. The received information was to be transmitted to supervisor through electronic communication channels.
On returning to Ukraine, the man immediately was identified by the Security Service and was monitored by law enforcement officers.
Within the framework of the initiated criminal proceedings the operatives documented the collection of personal information about ATO participants who worked in his state R&D centre. The person failed in completing his criminal task. The traitor was detained by law enforcement officers before he had a chance to transfer the collected data to the aggressor country.
During a search at the place of residence of Kharkiv, law enforcers seized electronic media with personal data of the military personnel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, which confirms the illegal activities of our compatriot.
According to the experts on state secrets, the seized information belongs to Ukraine’s defense sphere and has the “classified” access level. Its transfer to Russian special services could have harmed the state interests.
The suspect was notified of suspicion within the framework of a criminal proceeding opened under Art. 14 and Part 1 Art. 111.
Investigative actions are under way.
