SBU Head Vasyl Hrytsak: Russian military intelligence units break up democratic protests in Sudan

The official Moscow once again lies to the world community about the absence of Russia-controlled armed units on the territory of other states.

Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs dubbed as “fake” the material of the reputable British media “The Times” about Sudan adventures of Russia’s “Wagner PMC”, whose armed units suppressed the rallies organised by democratic opposition.

The data collected by the Security Service of Ukraine indicate that from December 2017, Sudan is the place of deployment of “Wagner PMC” task force, which includes at least 300 personnel. Most of whom have gone through the hostilities on the territory of Ukraine. According to the Russian regulatory framework, “Wagner PMC” employees “engage in intelligence and operational tasks on the territory of other states in the interests of Russian Ministry of Defence” and their activities are classified. For conspiracy reasons they operate under the cover of private structures which, in turn, receive exorbitant profits from state defence orders.  It is them who finance foreign military operations of the Russian Ministry of Defence. In particular, in the Sudan, such a cover is achieved by using “M Invest” LLC, a part of the “business empire” of the Putin’s favourite E. Prigozhin.

The SBU has evidence that “Wagner PMC” shifts its personnel and weapons to the Sudan and other countries of the region by using aircrafts registered at the Russian Ministry of Defence. Thus, according to the Contract No. В218/04/119 dated July 30, 2018 (worth 56,000,000) between the “M Invest” LLC and the “223rd Flight Detachment” of Russia’s Ministry of Defence, during the five months of 2018, aircrafts Tu-154M (aircraft No’s RA-85041, RA-85155) made eight flights from Moscow (through the Russian air base Khmeimim in Latakia, Syria) to the Sudanese capital Khartoum. From Khartoum the routes lead to other African countries where “Wagner PMC” is present: Central African Republic and Libya.

The logistics framework allows the Russian military command (every 2 months) to rotate the personnel of “ikhtamnet” [they’re not here] on regular basis, both in Syria and in Africa. In fact, Sudan is used as a transit base for the supply of weapons and military personnel to African countries handpicked by Russia for using in its pernicious geopolitical interests.

“There is no doubt that the so-called “Wagner PMC”, whose units disperse democratic protests in the Sudan, is a hybrid project of Russian military intelligence,” notes SBU Head Vasyl Hrytsak. These moves of Kremlin can only be aimed at supporting the regime of Omar al-Bashir, whose arrest warrant was issued by the International Criminal Court back in 2009 on charges of genocide of the civilians.

Vasyl Hrytsak believes that the struggle with the Russian aggressor is a continuous multi-directional process, which must be implemented until the day of victory. Therefore, in the near future, the Security Service of Ukraine will publish additional information about details of the criminal activities of “classified” Russian units in the Sudan.
