Poltava region: SBU seizes biggest ever methadone batch (video)
Officers of the SBU General Department for Fighting Corruption and Organized Crime jointly with the Regional Prosecutor's Office seized the biggest methadone batch in Ukraine’s history in Poltava region.
Security Service operatives established that members of ethnic organized group rented a private house in Myrgorod, where they set up an undercover drug laboratory. Criminals planed to sell the “product” on the territory of the country through the wide network of dealers.
During the search, law enforcers seized over 20 kilos of methadone, 300 kilos of precursors and almost 50 liters of methadone liquid concentrate. The cost of the seized substances on the “black market” is over UAH 35,000,000 (USD 1,250,000). Law enforcers also seized the drug production equipment.
Organizer of the group and two participants were detained under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine.
The urgent investigative and operative actions are under way within the criminal proceeding initiated under Part 3 of Article 307 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The seized equipment and the substances were sent for an expert examination. After the check, a notice of suspicion will be served.
The operation was conducted jointly with the Department on Combating Drug-Related Crimes of the National Police, under the procedural guidance of the Prosecutor's Office.
