Kharkiv region: SBU blocks embezzlement of state oil-products
The SBU officers exposed and blocked the activities of an organized group whose members plundered oil-products of the Ukrgazvydobuvannya Joint-Stock Company of Naftogaz of Ukraine.
The special service operatives have established that a resident of Balakliya district of Kharkiv region organized a mechanism for the plundering of light oil products from the railway tanks of Shebelinskyi unit for refining of gas condensate and oil. For unlawful activities, he engaged several accomplices, including railway station officials, who indicated in which tanks there was a specific type of oil products: gasoline, diesel fuel or gas condensate. Officials also ensured the placement of tanks on specific tracks for the time necessary for the theft. Other group members at night with the help of special equipment opened the tanks and drained oil-products into vehicles specially equipped with tanks. According to the SBU, group members committed theft two or three times a week, stealing almost two tons of fuel each time.
Within the framework of the initiated criminal proceedings, the SBU officers documented a number of thefts and sale by offenders of state oil products. Law enforcers detained members of the group during an attempt to steal from a tank a lot of gas condensate weighing 7 tons and valued at UAH 1000000.
During a series of searches in the group members’ places of residence, law enforcement officers seized a large number of material evidence: oil products, specially equipped vehicles, flexible pipelines, and money received from illegal activities.
The criminal proceeding is ongoing under Part 3 Article 185 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The issue about recharacterization of the criminals’ actions under Part 5 Article 185 the Criminal Code of Ukraine is being settled.
The urgent investigative actions are under way.
The operation was conducted jointly with the National Police, under the procedural supervision of the Prosecutor's Office in Kharkiv region.
