SBU uncovers corrupt officer of Odesa Customs Office
SBU officers jointly with the Odesa Prosecutor's Office exposed a senior state inspector of regional customs post on a systematic bribe taking.
Law enforcers established that the supervisor of customs shift demanded money from drivers of foreign-registered vehicles. The criminal involved an intermediary to the unlawful mechanism of legalization of imported cars in Ukraine. The average price of customs officer’s services amounted to USD 100 per car.
Law enforcers arrested both criminals in regional center on their receiving regular bribe of USD 1,100 from customs broker for customs clearance of 10 cars.
The SBU officer previously documented that the criminal received bribe for customs clearance of two cars with foreign plates.
In the framework of criminal proceedings, initiated under Part 2 Article 364 and Part 3 Article 368 f the Criminal Code of Ukraine, the issue of serving the detainees a notice of suspicion in committing a crime and choosing them a measure of restraint is being settled.
The investigative actions are ongoing in order to identify other episodes of illegal activity and possible implication of other Customs officials.
