SBU uncovers corrupt official of Zhytomyrstandardmetrology
SBU officers exposed on the systematic bribe-tacking a chief of unit of the Zhytomyr regional unit of measurement standards watchdog “Zhytomyrstandardmetrology”.
The SBU operatives established that the head of one of the units of the state enterprise devised a framework for receiving illegal financial gain from private entrepreneurs, for fast-track examinations of the products concerning their conformity to the technical standards and the certification. On average, the cost of such “services” reached about UAH 10,000 (USD 370) per examination, depending on work complexity. According to the SBU, local residents and businessmen from Kyiv, Chernihiv, Sumy regions were among the official’s clients.
Law enforcers detained the offender at her desk on receiving recurrent bribe amounting to UAH 5,000 (USD 185) from a Kyiv region businessman.
Within the framework of open criminal proceeding initiated under Part 3 of Art. 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, the pre-trial investigation is under way. The issue about serving a notice of suspicion in committing a crime to the detainee and choosing a measure of restraint is now being settled.
The operation aimed at the criminal detection was conducted jointly with the police investigators of the Main Directorate of the National Police of Ukraine under the procedural supervision of the Regional Prosecutor's Office.
