SBU exposes two SBU corrupt officers
Continuing the process of cleansing the own ranks, the operatives of the SBU Internal Security Directorate in joint operation with the Military Prosecutor's Office and the State Investigations Bureau documented extortion committed by two SBU officers.
The law enforcers established that the offenders extorted a large sum in foreign currency from a citizen of Ukraine, a native of one of the Central Asian states, promising him to help with non-deportation from Ukraine of his immediate relative who is wanted by the Interpol. To conduct the fraud, the offenders engaged two intermediaries. The special service officers documented the transfer of the first “tranche” in an amount of USD 40,000.
The law enforcers detained one of the intermediaries at the moment of his receiving another part of the bribe, USD 10,000. In the framework of initiated criminal proceeding, two SBU officers and the intermediaries were detained. During the authorized investigative actions in residence places and offices of the criminals, the SBU officers seized material evidence of the unlawful actions.
“The actions of our officers are intolerable and disgraceful for an officer of a country at war. We will cooperate with the investigation, and the Security Service will provide its full support,” said SBU Head Vasyl Hrytsak.
The detained were announced notices of suspicion in committing the crime, under Part 4 Article 189 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine and the custody was chosen as a measure of restraint.
