SBU uncovers corrupt voluntary Counsellor of MIA leadership
Officers of the SBU Main Department for Fighting Corruption and Organized Crime jointly with the General Prosecutor's Office exposed the corrupt voluntary Counsellor of the leadership of Ukraine’s Ministry of Internal Affairs.
SBU operatives established that the Counsellor, assisted by top management of an investigative directorates of the National Police, extorted through an intermediary USD 30, 000 from the owners of Kiev pawnshop network. For this amount, he promised assistance in ‘shieldding’ the network employees from criminal responsibility and termination of investigative actions within the framework of initiated proceeding.
The law enforcers detained the offender on his receiving the total amount of the bribe in Kyiv city.
At present, urgent investigations are ongoing at criminal’s places of work and residence.
The issue of serving a notice of suspicion to the counsellor in committing the crime stipulated by Article 369-2 (abusing the office) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine is being decided.
The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
