Maintaining balance between human rights observance and right of society to security is our top priority - Hrytsak (video)
In Kyiv, the Head of the Security Service of Ukraine Vasyl Hrytsak signed a Memorandum on cooperation in the field of human rights watch with representatives of Freedom House Ukraine, NGO "Ukrainian Institute for Human Rights", NGO "Human Rights Expert Center" and "Vostok-SOS" charitable fund.
The memorandum provides for consolidation of efforts to ensure effective prevention of violations of human rights and freedoms in the sphere of the Security Service of Ukraine activities through the establishment of effective democratic civilian control. Also, platforms will be created for interaction at the regional level, within the framework of the pilot project, in particular in Donetsk, Luhansk, Dnipropetrovsk, Kherson and Lviv regions. "The balance between the provision of human rights and the right of society to security is a priority task of security institutions," said Vasyl Hrytsak.
Within the framework of the interaction, it is planned to conduct joint activities aimed at raising the level of awareness of SBU officials, members of public councils and representatives of public associations on the issues of ensuring human rights and freedoms in the activities of security bodies, ascertaining and resolving specific issues in this area, as well as on issues of organization and provision of democratic civil control over the activities of the Security Service of Ukraine. "Strengthening institutional capacity through the improvement and development of a constructive dialogue with civil society and international human rights organizations is of particular importance to us in the context of transforming the SBU into a modern European special service," said Vasyl Hrytsak.
