Donetsk region: SBU seizes batch of counterfeit cigarettes worth UAH 2,000,000 (USD 71,430)
SBU officers involved in the Joint Forces Operation continue large scale measures aimed at countering illegal transportation of counterfeit excise goods from temporarily occupied territory of Ukraine.
During the operation, the SBU operatives jointly with the State Border Guard Service officers under the procedural supervision of the Military Prosecutor's Office of Joint Forces blocked a supplies channel of tobacco products with fake excise stamps from Donetsk territory non-controlled by Ukrainian authorities.
The SBU officers established that two residents of occupied Yenakiievo and Vuhlehirsk illegally sent counterfeit cigarettes by motorboat in Azov sea. The dealers were going to sell imported to Ukraine-controlled territory cigarettes in other regions of Ukraine.
Law enforcers detained criminals on the seashore near Kulikovske (Zaporizzhia region), on attempt to reload the cigarettes from the boat to truck for further transportation to Berdyansk. The law enforces seized 177 boxes of counterfeit cigarettes. The approximate cost of “goods” is valued at over UAH 2,000,000 (USD 71,430) in cash.
The urgent investigative actions on bringing to criminal responsibility of other persons involved in the unlawful actions in the framework of the criminal proceeding initiated under Part 2 Article 199, Part 3 Article 369 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine are under way.
