SBU reveal Russia’s secret services recruiting officer of military arsenal (video)

The officers of the SBU Military Counter-intelligence Department prevented a terrorist attack, which was being prepared by Russia’s secret services on an arsenal of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, where strategic stocks of new missiles and ammunition are stored.

The SBU operatives established that at the beginning of the year the representatives of Russian secret service recruited an officer of the Armed Forces arsenal. They used methods of psychological influence and pressure, threatening the safety of officer’s relatives, who live in the temporarily occupied territories of Donbas. The officer was tasked to collect and transmit information about the military facility, in particular about protection and movement of weapons. The aggressor country was intended to use received information to commit sabotage on a strategic military facility to affect the defence capability of Ukraine.

For fulfilment of the tasks, supervisors from Russia’s secret services promised to provide the officer of the Armed Forces with financial assistance, Russian citizenship and the pension. The officer was provided with necessary means of communication and was given electronic channels for transmission of restricted-access information. The supervisors guided and coordinated officer’s actions from Russia through the Internet.

Due to the timely measures of the officers of the SBU Military Counter-intelligence Department, Ukrainian citizen was stopped from getting involved in unlawful activities to the detriment of Ukraine's national interests.

The SBU reminds that crimes committed under Article 111 (state treason) and 258-3 (facilitation of a terrorist group or terrorist organization) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine is punishable by imprisonment for up to 15 years.

In accordance with Part 2 Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine citizens of Ukraine are released from criminal liability if they did not commit any acts requested by a foreign state, foreign organization or their representatives and voluntarily reported on links with them and the received task. Part 2 Article 258-3 provides for the release of the individual who voluntarily reported to law enforcement bodies about corresponding terrorist activities, contributed to its termination or disclosure of crimes committed in connection with creation or actions of such group or organization.

The SBU warns that any citizen of Ukraine may fall into the sight of the special services of the aggressor country.
