SBU officers unveil corrupt official of Zhytomyr City Council on USD 1,000 bribe
SBU officers jointly with the police investigators of the Main Directorate of the National Police under the procedural supervision of the Regional Prosecutor's Office division, uncovered a chief of Zhytomyr City Council who set up a scheme for receiving ‘roll-backs’ from businessmen during tender process.
SBU operatives established that the official of Zhytomyr City Council demanded bribes from representatives of commercial structures - winners of tenders on budget financing for repair of the city communal facilities. On average, the amount of unlawful benefits amounted to 10% of tender value.
Law enforcers detained the official in Zhytomyr centre near the City Council after his transferring to the representative of the construction company a regular "rollback" - 10% of UAH 270,000 (USD 10,000) of budget funds, previously transferred to the account of private enterprise.
The issue about removing the briber from post, serving a notice of suspicion in committing a crime and choosing a measure of restraint is now being settled.
The pre-trial investigation aimed at establishing other possible facts of the criminal’s illegal activities is under way under Part 3 Article 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
