SBU uncovers interregional drug group, including ex-law enforcement officers
SBU officers uncovered and blocked activities of an organized interregional group specialized in smuggling, manufacturing and selling of precursor.
It was established that the group consisted of the residents of Cherkasy and Kyiv regions, in particular three former employees of the bodies of internal affairs. The attackers arranged two drug laboratories for the manufacture of phenylnitropropane, which is used to synthesize psychotropic substances of amphetamine and methamphetamine in the utility premises of residence. The end precursors drug traffickers sold throughout Ukraine through an extensive network of dealers and the Internet.
Law enforcers detained five members of the group, in particular ex-law enforcement officers, according to Art. 208 of the Criminal Procedural Code of Ukraine.
In the course of authorized investigations in residences and utility rooms of the persons involved in the investigation, equipment for the manufacture of precursors and psychotropic substances, almost two hundred kilograms of phenylnitropropane, and more than a ton of chemical reagents for its synthesis were detected.
Approximate cost of seized precursors at the prices of the "black market" comprises eight million hryvnias.
Within the framework of initiated criminal proceedings under Part 3 of Art. 311 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine the detainees were served a notice of suspicion of committing the crime. The issue of choosing the measure of restraint is now being decided.
Investigative actions are ongoing to bring to justice other persons involved in unlawful activities.
The operation was conducted by the officers of SBU Office in Cherkasy region under the procedural supervision of the Prosecutor's Office.
