Luhansk region: SBU unveils corrupt official of State Service for Geodesy
SBU revealed on bribery one of the heads of the department of the State Service for Geodesy, Cartography and Cadastre of Lugansk region and the acting director of the communal enterprise of Severodonetsk City Council.
SBU officers involved in Joint Forces Operation have found that officials extorted money from certified land surveyors of specialized enterprises. For the monthly payment of illegal benefit, officials promised representatives of commercial structures not to interfere with their licensing activity in particular, during the registration of land management documentation in the state body.
The entrepreneurs had to transfer the money to the bank card account of the acting director of one of the communal enterprises of Severodonetsk City Council.
At the end of the month, officials processed the number of signed and registered documents and informed the land surveyors about the amount of bribes for registration.
The monthly total of the illegal financial gain ranged from UAH 60,000 (USD 2,400) to hundreds of thousands of hryvnias. SBU operatives documented more than 30 facts of the offenders demanding and taking bribes.
Law enforcers detained both offenders according to Art. 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine at their working place, on their taking the next bribe.
During the sanctioned investigative actions, law enforcers found illicit gains, ‘black’ accounting records, magnetic data storage devices and other material evidence of illegal activity.
The issue about serving a notice of suspicion in committing a crime to the detainees and choosing a measure of restraint is now being settled. Investigative actions are ongoing within the framework of open criminal proceedings under part 3 of Art. 368 (“Taking a bribe by an official”) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
The Article provides for a sentence of 5 to 10 years, with deprivation of the right to occupy certain positions and forfeiture of property.
The operation was conducted jointly with the Military Prosecutor's Office of Joint Forces Operation and the State Bureau of Investigations.
