Kyiv region: SBU unveils organised group supplying weapons to criminal circles
SBU officers unveiled and stopped the activity of an organised criminal group specialising in the illegal manufacture and sale of the means of destruction in the Kyiv region.
The group comprised of three citizens of the region, officers of the SBU Department for Fighting Corruption and Organized Crime established. Group members upgraded traumatic pieces into combat weapons for sale to members of criminal circles. According to operative information, the criminals planned to use the obtained weapons for committing serious crimes and felonies.
The offenders sold the munitions via the Internet and mail services to clients from other regions of Ukraine, too.
SBU operatives have documented several facts of illegal sale of weapons and ammo by the criminals.
A large number of upgraded small arms, pistols of foreign origin for firing live ammo were found during the sanctioned investigations at the residence and ancillary premises of the group members. Silencers and equipment for the manufacture and upgrading of weapons were seized, too.
Urgent investigative actions within the framework of open criminal proceedings under part 1 of Art. 263 (“Unlawful handling of weapons, ammunition or explosives”) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine to bring all individuals involved in illegal activities to criminal responsibility are ongoing.
The operation was carried out jointly with the investigative department of the National Police of Kyiv region under the procedural guidance of the Prosecutor's Office in the Kyiv region.
