Luhansk region: SBU exposes corrupt head of logistics support division of State Border Guard Service
The SBU exposed on bribe the head of the logistics support division of one of the Luhansk border units in the area of the Joint Forces Operation.
The Lieutenant-Colonel extorted from a local businessman a kickback of UAH 70,000 (USD 2,800), found the operatives involved in the Joint Forces Operation. This amounted up to ten percent of the contracted food supply for the Lysychansk border unit. It is documented that the official used his position to influence the check of the delivered provision, creating conditions for termination of earlier signed contracts and preventing the entrepreneurs from bidding in tenders. The offender used these powers to blackmail the businessmen.
The law enforcers detained the border guard official on one of the Lysychansk streets, after his receiving the full amount of unlawful benefit.
Within the framework of initiated criminal proceedings under Part 3 Art. 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (“Receiving a bribe in especially great amount by an authorized person in responsible position”), urgent investigative actions are under way to establish all circumstances and other persons possibly involved in illegal activities. The Article provides for 5 to 7 years of imprisonment, with the deprivation of the right to occupy certain positions or engage in certain activities for a term up to three years, and with confiscation of property.
The issue of serving a notice of suspicion to the offender and choosing him a measure of restraint is being settled.
The special operation was carried out jointly with investigators of the local administration of the SBI under the procedural supervision of the Luhansk garrison military prosecutor's office.
