Odesa region: SBU exposes scam artist who presented himself as SBU officer
Operatives of the SBU Internal Security Directorate uncovered a local resident in Odesa region who extorted money, pretending to be the SBU officer.
SBU officers established that as from April 2019 the conman was demanding USD 50,000 from a traumatologist of Odesa City Hospital. He used a forged ID of SBU officer, a firearm replica and showed counterfeit documents that allegedly confirm the medic’s involvement in bribe-taking and illicit drug trafficking.
Law enforcers documented the receipt of USD 3,000 and detained the criminal in Odesa suburbs on receiving the next “tranche” amounting to UAH 500,000 (USD 20,000).
Within the criminal proceedings initiated under part 4 of Art. 189 (“Extortion”) and Part 2 of Art. 353 (“Unauthorized assuming of office or official title”) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, criminal received notice of suspicion in committing a crime and is detained until court’s decision.
