SBU thwarts Russian special services attempt to recruit a female resident of Khmelnytskiy region
SBU officers unveiled new attempts of Russian special services to recruit Ukrainians for intelligence activities against the state security.
Earlier, FSB representatives detained, without any explanation, a female resident of Khmelnytskiy region (at the checkpoint “Stanitsa Luganska”) who was going back to Ukraine after visiting her relatives in the temporarily occupied territory of Luhansk region. Using threats and intimidation, FSB representatives tried to pressure the female to covert cooperation. Agents demanded to collect information, in particular, about location of military facilities in region.
On returning back home, the female contacted the SBU, providing detailed information about the circumstances of the recruitment attempt and the tasks.
The state treason is punishable by up to 15 years of imprisonment under Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. Considering that the citizen of Ukraine didn’t fulfil the criminal request of the foreign special services and voluntarily informed domestic law enforcers about such contacts and tasks, the court satisfied the motion of the investigative authorities, releasing the female from the criminal responsibility.
