Luhansk region: SBU detects new cache with military munitions left by militants
In the course of countering illegal arms trafficking, SBU officers detected another cache with military munitions in Luhansk region.
Two RPG-22 anti-tank rocket launchers and almost 900 cartridges to small arms were seized from the underground cache located in the private residence in Hirske, Popasna district. According to the information available, this stash was arranged by the militants of Russian hybrid occupational troops near the demarcation line in Pervomaisk.
Law enforcement officers seized ammo from the cache in Hirske several days ago. The cache was arranged by the same militants in order to carry out terrorist attacks on the Ukraine-controlled territory.
The SBU has prevented over 20 cases of illegal arms trafficking in Luhansk region since the beginning of 2019. 37 items of weapons, over 13,000 ammo, almost 4kg of explosive substances were seized. Five criminals involved in illegal arms, ammo and explosives trafficking have been convicted.
The operation to detect and seize the munitions is ongoing, jointly with the National Police of Ukraine.
