SBU materials helped to convict 3 militants of “DNR” terrorist organization to 9 years of imprisonment in Donetsk region.
SBU investigators established that 3 residents of Donetsk region voluntarily joined “Kazachij soyuz “Oblast’ vojska Donskogo “DNR” in 2014 to earn money. They were serving as a gunman and a reconnaissanceman, were equipped with armoured vehicles, grenade launchers and mine throwers. The militants took active part in the hostilities against the ATO forces.
At the beginning of their “combat way” the IAF members earned almost RUB 10,000 (USD 154). However, in the course of time they had to serve for free. Their division was disbanded due to conflicts between different militant groups, “russkiy mir” defenders lost interest in military service. Soon they escaped from their leaders and were hiding at their relatives’ on the territory, controlled by Ukrainian authorities.
SBU officers detained the militants in Donetsk region in 2018. During the searches at the places of militants’ temporary residence, the law enforcement officers seized photos, video, military awards and other evidence of the terrorist activity.
Having analyzed SBU materials, the court found the detainees guilty of committing the crime stipulated by Part 1 Article 258-3 (“Creation of a terrorist group or terrorist organization”) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine and sentenced them to 9 years of imprisonment.
The verdict came into force.
