Luhansk region: SBU detains militant of “LNR” howitzer artillery division
SBU counter-intelligence detained a member of a “LNR” terrorist unit who took an active part in hostilities against UA forces in Luhansk region.
Law enforcers established that in summer 2015, the resident of Luhansk joined the illegal armed formations with mercenary motives. After training at a military facility he was enlisted to howitzer artillery division. The militant shelled positions of UA Armed Forces and residential areas of Shchastia city.
Later on, the suspect became disappointed in his ‘remuneration’ and abandoned illegal armed formation. He moved to UA-controlled territories and was hiding from justice at his relatives’ place. Law enforcers established militant’s location and detained him.
Under initiated criminal proceedings the suspect was charged with creation of a terrorist group or terrorist organization (Part 1 Article 258-3 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). The article provides up to 15 years of imprisonment with confiscation of property.
The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
This operation was conducted jointly with the National Police.
