SBU counter-intelligence detains Russia’s FSB agent on receiving classified military documents
SBU counter-intelligence detained in Cherkasy region a Russia’s FSB agent when he was receiving classified documents with information on Ukrainian defence.
SBU operatives and investigators established that the resident of Cherkasy region was recruited by the Russia’s FSB officer while visiting the aggressor country. He agreed to gather and transmit the intelligence on Ukrainian defence capability in exchange for money.
In order to access the restricted documents the agent was contacting the servicemen of Ukrainian Army. To transmit the intelligence, the Russian handlers provided the agent with special technical device with a camera and “worked out” the communication channels.
The investigative and operative actions are ongoing under the criminal proceedings for high treason (Part 1 Art. 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
The issues of charging the detainee and choosing a measure of restraint are being decided.
The Article provides for up to 15 years of imprisonment.
