Address of the Head of Security Service of Ukraine on occasion of the National Flag Day and 26th anniversary of independence
I sincerely congratulate you on occasion of the National Flag Day and 26th anniversary of independence of Ukraine.
Adjacency of these two momentous events is not a coincidence. Blue-and-yellow flag became a nation`s symbolic talisman that fills the hearts with feeling of patriotism, inspires for new achievements for the sake of Homeland.
For over quarter of a century, Ukrainian people on their own land embody ancestral desire for freedom and dignity.
As it happens, today it has to be done with arms in hands, protecting our civilization choice and the guarantee of its implementation –Independence of Ukraine.
There cannot be more or less of independence. There is no place for compromise here: either we are free or not.
Being free as a nation means much more than formal acceptance of Ukraine as a subject of international relations. We have to realize that the real Independence require strong national spirit, developed sense of national honour and national pride.
All these virtues are entirely inherent to the SBU officers. Having found themselves at the forefront of undeclared war, they fulfil their official and civic duty professionally and with valour.
I feel privileged to be the head of such a Service and to have an opportunity to thank each of you for your significant contribution to the task of guaranteeing state security and to our future Victory.
Demeanour and inspiration!
Peace and prosperity to your families!
God bless Ukraine and all of us!
Glory to Ukraine! Glory to the heroes!

General of the Army V. Hrytsak
