SBU neutralizes a gang of car thieves members of which were police investigators (video)
The SBU together with the Prosecutor’s Office neutralized an organized criminal group of car thieves in Zaporizhzhia Region. The group consisted of two women who were police investigators and three Zaporizhzhia citizens.
The police officers worked out a system of stealing cars and their return for money. For hijacking cars, they engaged people from criminal environment. They also “protected” the criminal activity of the group and offered to return the cars to their owners for money. If the owner refused to pay, his car was sold with a fake technical passport and license number.
For their service the swindlers demanded up to 50% of the cost of the stolen car.
The police officers were apprehended by the SBU in their working place after receiving 3,000 USD from another victim.
In the process of search in the criminals’ apartments, the law enforcers confiscated a “MKM” carbine, a traumatic gun, instruments for hijacking cars and the “common fund” of the group.
All the members of the criminal group were apprehended under Article 208 of the Code of Criminal Procedure of Ukraine. The members of the group were notified of suspicion under Part 3, Article 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The issue of choosing a measure of restraint as having the criminals in custody is being settled.
Investigative actions are under way.
