SBU in Kyiv detains deserter - division officer
The SBU officers in joint operation with the Military Prosecutor`s Office and the Ukrainian Military Police detained a deserter, staff signal officer – howitzer self-propelled artillery division officer in Kyiv.
The law enforcers established that on August 2015 the lieutenant willfully left military base, located in the Donetsk region, and moved to temporarily occupied Crimea. In the framework of the criminal proceeding, initiated under Part 4 Article 407 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, the SBU operatives documented that the criminal tried to get a temporary refuge in so-called “Republic of Crimea RF”. He also kept in touch with FSB officers, and transferred them information regarding the ATO forces.
The SBU officers established that the deserter came to Kyiv by covert means to resolve personal issues in November, and detained him before he returned to temporarily occupied peninsula.
At present the lieutenant is brought to the Ukrainian Military Police for further convoy to the Military Prosecutor`s Office of Donetsk garrison. The custody will be chosen for him as a measure of restraint.
The pre-trial investigations are under way.
